"The Indignation Of Solitary Life"
Background Story
Lee
Un sat down and started into the darkness of his room in a daydream.
This vision was one of rigidity and coldness. The
bleakness
of this atmosphere encircled him. He had fallen from a great
height. He appeared to be flying a plane that he had no
control
over as it crashed to the ground.
Only his position as a crowned Prince and his property kept the plane
flying. When he came down to the ground he became an ordinary
person, no longer deserving to be a special crowned Prince.
All
people need a purpose for their lives. We need a home
country,
friends and the potential to achieve these aims. Outwardly,
he
was bright. But he was not inwardly. His brightness
had
been consumed by the darkness of his heart.
Angrily, he asked himself, "In the past I was forced to wait patiently,
but how can I now break out of this unbearable solitude?"
He succumbed to illness. Whilst delirious, he mindlessly
muttered
to himself, "Get on the ship. Change my cloths." In
the
same moment he changed his mind, "No! It is too early."
Description
The
Prince's loss of position, property and everything is symbolized by the
use of the color gray. His figure has gradually changed into
the
shape of a snake, with no hands or feet, representing his
powerlessness. He has lost his long whiskers in line with his
loss of power. His scales have become round and snake-like
also.
While the occupation of the Japanese is over, many Korean
people
are again suffering under the civil war, which divides the country into
the North and the South. To represent the bloody struggle I
have
made a background of red, brown and black. The figures at the
bottom of the robe are now red as well as black, with blood red
stitching sprayed across them. |
